My Sad Prog Rock Past
That's right! As a teenager, faced with the rankness of commercial radio, I developed a love of punk and prog music. A strange combination, no doubt, but the contradictions seemed to suit my personality. A few days ago Leah brought me to a concert where I could get my prog on, and I most certainly did. A band called Musical Box, hailing from my home province of Quebec, re-stages Peter Gabriel era Genesis concerts, complete with lights and costumes. This particular concert was a 30th anniversary re-staging of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. It was amazing, and I think you would be hard-pressed to find another cover band that could travel the world over, and receive standing ovations for doing what these guys do. Of course now everyone will know my deep dark prog secret. I hardly ever listen to it now, but it comforts me to know that there are millions of other cloet prog fans keeping bands like this one on the road.

The Business Of Being in A Band - Part 2 - Basic Investments
So you got your band and you got your common goalsYou got the basic talents and the hunger to go out and perform (or practice)So now we'll talk about basic investmentsYour instrumentMost beginners fall into the worst trap of not investing in quality instruments, they go for price instead of quality which usually leads to a horrible sounding instrument.I made this mistake a couple of times. If you want cheap instruments there are always pawn shops or cheap instrument places to go and buy em. You can also go online and buy it second hand from a previous owner.Go out of your way to save enough money for a good guitar or intrumentSince I'm a guitarist I'm gonna be more prone to talking about guitars a lotIf you want a cheap guitar go for Ibanez guitars they're cheap and sound really goodI have an Ibanez GAX which sounds extremely well even when it's played alongside a Fender (which I also have, a Squier) or a Les Paul (I got the Ace Frehley model). SO you see I invested quite a lot in my instruments.A nice sounding instrument will also make your audience appreciate you more. A horrible sounding one will just send them packing.Next, a good...
The Business Of Being in A Band - Part 1
well, well, well I guess I'll start posting what is going to be a regular feature on AcidRadio's blog hereIt's called: "Your band."This feature is actually for kids who are either starting a band or are in a band. It can also cater to more mature musicians. It's a lofty ambition but hey... I gotta start teaching right?Let's just hope I'm ot too scatter brained for thisSo you wanna start a band? HmmmYou got the basic skills, some willing friends and an idea. That's actually enough to start your long journey towards being in the music business. What some guys fail to do is have a common goal. It can be getting girls or getting drunk but that type of goal usually dies in the long run.Try to get your band together and think of what would really make you guys stick together in the long run. Is it frienship? Music? Family? It can be a lot of reasons but you have to think as a group however corny that may sound. So some basic steps for now1. Talk about interests and find a common goal 2. Set a rigid practice session every week and no one is allowed to be late or absent 3. Search for gigs - nothing compares to the real...
AcidRadio - The band, the business
It's funny how things that started out as an inside joke amongst friends has turned into 16 years of being together.AcidRadio has had it's fair share of players coming in and going out but I've remained constant in it.Heck it's not even making much money but I have 3 other guys who work just as har as I am to maintain it.Over the years I think I've already invested more than 100K into this band for instruments, practices, social activities and we've also been paid almost that amount so I think we're just breaking even. And I believe each member of the band has also contributed about 50K of their money for their personal instruments and other miscellaneous thing. We never really intended to make money out of it and that's why it started out as a thrash metal band, over the years and a lot of paradigm shifts later we turned into a hard rock unit.We started out by crashing into a gig and eventually getting a small following. We're still constantly playing in gigs and venues, mostly in bars and getting paid isn't too much of a problem anymore for us. It's kind of our escape from the daily grind we have to face. All of us are busy working but when a gig comes up,...
Maroon 5 best band eva??
Who like maroon 5 and their songs?? I listen to their music almost everyday and i never get bored of it. Nowadays songs are getting a bit ridiculous. I still like old songs... Jus wandering which band or singers u guys like. Feel free to post below:D
what would you name your band?
if you would form a band, what name would you give it? mine would probably happenstance. it's one of my favorite words.
What is your favorite band of all time?
There are so many awesome musicians that it's hard for me to pick a favorite. Currently, I'd have to say Aerosmith is one of my top all-time favorites. What are yours?
would you rather have a solo career or front a band?
I'd definitely love to front a band 'coz I think it's more fun to be with other people when you perform onstage. On the other hand, when you go solo, the audience's attention is only on you and there would be nobody to have a fight with. Plus you won't have to take long looking for band members with chops. Either way, I hope it's not too late for a singing career for me.
Kotak band
hai my pals..had you ever heard about many songs of Kotak like beraksi, masih cinta, pelan2 saja and so on. whats your favourite songs from KOTAK band? and whats your experience related to that songs. thanks
